Something New

{shirt: loft | pants: loft | necklace: bauble bar | clutch: dooney and bourke | shoes: target | sunnies: F21}

I think I'm in the market for something new. But not new clothes, which is surprising since this is predominately a fashion blog. Something new that is a bit more fulfilling. Don't get my wrong, I sure do love new clothes. But I also try to be reasonable with my purchases so that I can save money for things with more meaning- like travel and family. In fact, I've recently put my self on an unofficial 3 month shopping ban. (how's that for non-committal?). You see, I've got a big trip coming up at the end of June and for right now, I'd like to spend my money on my travels instead of on my wardrobe. Also, my closet is really full.  Sometimes it takes not buying anything new to realize what you already have.

 So why am I in the market for something new? Good question. I'd like to do something new with this little blog. New layout, new series, new content- but I haven't figured out just the right thing(s). So I'm putting it in writing. I will do something new. Maybe that will motivate me into some commitment!

Army Coral

{jacket: h&m | tank: jcrew | jeans: citizens | scarf: zara | bag: target (similar) | shoes: banana | sunnies: rayban}

Today I'd like to say a little something to army green and coral. There are both pretty good on their own, but put them together, and I just don't want to stop wearing you.

Frolicking

{blazer: thrifted | shirt: F21 | jeans: jbrand (similar) | shoes: target | bag: target | sunnies: ray-ban}

I wore this little number while frolicking around Georgetown on my trip to DC last week. If you haven't been to Georgetown, that's what people do there. They frolic around in little numbers (also known as outfits). It was a sunny day and everyone was out shopping, sipping coffee, seeing, and being seen.

As I was busy window shopping at a few of my favorite high-end stores in Georgetown, including Rag and Bone and Michael Kors, I couldn't help but snicker at the fact that I was getting compliments on my Target bag and shoes! (which are currently buy one get one half off). It was a friendly reminder that I didn't need those $400 shoes in the window to feel stylish. Affordable style for the win!

Stripes, Coral, Spring.

{blazer: loft | shirt: loft | jeans: Jbrand | necklace: bauble bar | bag: target (similar) | shoes: banana (similar)}

I really thought it was starting to feel like spring. So much, that I even took my blazer off for some of these outfit photos. If that doesn't say spring, I don't know what does.

Then I got on a plane for a work trip to DC. It was 50 degrees and sunny when I arrived. The spring buzz was still going strong. Today it's snowing with an expected 4-13 inches!?!?!?! And get this, tomorrow it will be 50 and sunny again. How's a girl supposed to pack for a trip like this? (that's a rhetorical questions, but you can be sure that I did not pack accordingly for any inches- let alone 13- of snow!)

Lunch Time

{sweater: hive & honey | jeans: citizens | boots: jcrew | bag: foley and corinna (similar)}

Let me tell you about my yesterday. Or really, just my lunch break which is arguably the most important part of the (work) day. After eating my usual, I zipped into Forever 21 for a quick look around. Since F21 is never quick, I limited myself to scarves and jackets. I quickly found a can’t-live-without-it scarf AND jacket. But, in an effort to be “responsible” I sadly left the jacket and took home my cheaper than lunch scarf.

With a few minutes to spare, I decided to do a bit of blog browsing. And there is was- the JACKET. On one of my favorite bloggers, looking just as good as I thought it would. That must be a sign to go back and buy it, right? Hmm, my pocket book seems to be in disagreement. decisions. decisions.

Candid Ruffles

{blouse: Urban Outfitters | jeans: 7 for all mankind | jacket: Anthro (last year) | shoes: Payless}

I forgot to look at the camera in these photos. There must have been something really interesting going on "off screen." I can't seem to remember what it was though. Either that, or this was my attempt at making my photos look "artsy" or "candid." You be the judge.

Also, I wanted to say happy Wednesday! We are half way through the week and I'm already thinking about all that I want to accomplish this weekend. Since I moved into a new apartment, I've got furnishing and decorating on the mind. Any Portland readers have a favorite spot for used stuff?

Street Festival

{Shirt: H&M | Skirt: Urban Outfitters (similar) | Shoes: Ciao Bella | Necklace: F21 | Watch: Marc Jacobs}

Last night I walked outside and was cold for the first time in months. It finally felt like fall was in the air. But don't be fooled! It's still summer during the day!

I wore this outfit over the weekend to the H Street Festival. The entire street, H street to be exact, was blocked off so that local vendors and artists could fill the street with food stands, pop-up shops, and exhibits. Popular items included street meat, bbq corn, smoothies served in whole pineapples, po-boys, and ice cold beer. You couldn't ask for much more on a Saturday around town!

short shorts

{Shirt: Old Navy | Shorts: Target | Shoes: Madewell}

Summer shorts are a wonderful thing. I love throwing on a bright pair and adding a classic print tank to create a relaxed look. These coral shorts are my favorite of the summer and I've been lounging in them almost every weekend. While pink and yellow is one of my favorite color combos, these shorts also look great with a plain white tee, a grey tank, or even a light blue print.

You know what else is a wonderful thing? Summer vacation! I am currently relaxing and rejuvenating with my family back home. I'll be back to a normal life next week. Until then, you can find me at the pool, cocktail in hand.

Bauble

{Shirt: Loft | Skirt: Urban Outfitters | Shoes: Payless | Necklace: Bauble Bar}

This necklace is one on my favorite jewelry pieces- ever. I know that's a big claim, but this is a great necklace! In the past, I've worn in higher up, like a bib, but then I saw one of my favorite bloggers, Kendi, style a similar necklace in a long fashion and I decided to give it a go. The result? LOVE. It's so inspiring to come up with new ways to wear something you love.

WHITE TEE: 3 WAYS (a dailybuzz style 9x9)

When I was selected for the DailyBuzz Style 9x9: How Would You Style The Classic White Tee Shirt, the first thing that came to my mind was the simplicity of a casual jeans and tee look. A white tee shirt has always been a go-to item for me when I want to look comfortable, relaxed and effortlessly chic.

But for this feature, instead of sticking with familiarity, I decided to stretch my creativity and come up with three unique ways to style a white tee. I chose this Loft tee, but any simple white tee will do the trick for all three of these looks.

LOOK ONE: WORKING GIRL
(Skirt: Loft (similar) | Necklace: Bauble Bar | Shoes: INC | Watch: Michael Kors}

For this look, I combined the white tee with a classic, black pencil skirt for a polished, office friendly feel. The addition of a staple necklace in a bright, bold color really pops against the black and white and makes the whole outfit look and feel more fun (and in my mind, fun is always a welcome bonus for office attire!)

LOOK TWO: STATEMENT VEST
(Vest: H&M (similar) | Jeans: Paige Denim | Shoes: Payless | Belt: Banana Republic | Necklace: Eastern Market DC}
For this look, I added some character to my jeans and white tee look by adding a simple black vest. This gives the look a more styled feel and would be perfect for a casual date or an afternoon on the town.

LOOK THREE: SHAPED MAXI
(Dress: Off 5th | Shoes: Anthropologie | Necklace: Anthropologie}

I've had this maxi dress for a while, but sometimes the tie-dye like coloring and the boxy shape leave me less than satisfied when I try to style this dress. Tying a white tee over the dress is the perfect way to tone down the pattern and most importantly, it adds a flattering shape.

So there you have it. Three not-so-ordinary ways to style a white tee shirt that can easily be recreated with similar items in your closet! And as always, thanks for reading!
