Something New

{shirt: loft | pants: loft | necklace: bauble bar | clutch: dooney and bourke | shoes: target | sunnies: F21}

I think I'm in the market for something new. But not new clothes, which is surprising since this is predominately a fashion blog. Something new that is a bit more fulfilling. Don't get my wrong, I sure do love new clothes. But I also try to be reasonable with my purchases so that I can save money for things with more meaning- like travel and family. In fact, I've recently put my self on an unofficial 3 month shopping ban. (how's that for non-committal?). You see, I've got a big trip coming up at the end of June and for right now, I'd like to spend my money on my travels instead of on my wardrobe. Also, my closet is really full.  Sometimes it takes not buying anything new to realize what you already have.

 So why am I in the market for something new? Good question. I'd like to do something new with this little blog. New layout, new series, new content- but I haven't figured out just the right thing(s). So I'm putting it in writing. I will do something new. Maybe that will motivate me into some commitment!

dressed

{dress: thrifted | purse: target | shoes: target}

Do you guys ever get dressed with something you think you want to wear sometime in the future, and then take pictures of yourself wearing that outfit, and then change into something more comfortable? No? I guess it's just me then.

I'm heading out on a little mini-vacay in Chicago tomorrow, and I'll be seeing the Book of Mormon while I'm in town (you should probably know that I LOVE musicals). I've been thinking about what to wear, and this little dress made the maybe list. I wanted to try it out because I usually wear this "dress" as a shirt, see here, so I wasn't sure how I would like it as a dress. I wore it around for a while and took these pictures. Then I put on my favorite sweatpants and watched the latest episode of Smash (show about musicals) instead of packing. I still don't know what I'm going to wear, but I am most definitely in the musical spirit!

Hello!

{blazer: h&m (similar) | tee: loft | jeans: citizens | scarf: zara | bag: target (similar) | sunnies: loft}

Hello pink blazer. Hello Monday. Hello readers. Hello my new favorite sun glasses. Hello 1 year blog anniversary. Check back here to see my first post exactly one year ago today. I think it's fair to say that this blog has come along way! Thanks for reading along and let's keep at it, shall we?

dress code

{shirt: piperlime (similar) | jeans: seven (similar)| shoes: target}

There is no doubt about it- Friday is a fantastic day. There is an unspoken casual Friday dress code at my office and it seems so much easier to get dressed in the morning when I can put jeans on. This alone makes Friday feel like a good day right from the start. That, and the sunshine outside. Oh, and that little thing called the weekend that's just around the corner!

What's your office dress code like? Do you get to wear jeans always, or never (gasp!)?

Breemix: Yellow, Dots.

{sweater: old navy | skirt: h&m | scarf: h&m | bag: foley and corinna | boots: Circa Joan and David}

I'll let you in on a little secret. Sometimes I turn a cardigan backwards and pretend it's a regular old sweater. I am pretty sure that buttons up the back are a nice detail, and if their not, it doesn't really matter because I can't see them. Out of sight, out of mind.

Here's another secret. h&m is my favorite place to buy scarves.

I'll also tell you that this post is a Bree-Mix. That's not a secret though...I gave it away in the post title.

Minty

{blazer: Express (similar) | tee: Jcrew | skirt: Jcrew | scarf: F21 | boots: Steven via DSW}

I'm thankful for Friday and four day work weeks. After taking a few weeks off to be with family, it's been an adjustment to join the working world again. But finding things to be thankful for always helps pull me through.

 Oh, and I'm thankful for scarves. brrrr. We've been on a cold streak here in the NW. The kind of cold streak where I wear my down coat like a sweatshirt and only take it off for outfit photos.

Get Dressed.

{sweater: h&m | shirt: f21 | skirt: jcrew | shoes: payless}

Sometimes when there are no words to say, you can only get up, and get dressed. So that's what I've done. I lost my dad this past week to pancreatic cancer, so my daily routine has slipped from the priority list. But I'm still getting dressed, and when I feel up to it, I still want to share that with you. So as always, thank you for stopping by.

Candid Ruffles

{blouse: Urban Outfitters | jeans: 7 for all mankind | jacket: Anthro (last year) | shoes: Payless}

I forgot to look at the camera in these photos. There must have been something really interesting going on "off screen." I can't seem to remember what it was though. Either that, or this was my attempt at making my photos look "artsy" or "candid." You be the judge.

Also, I wanted to say happy Wednesday! We are half way through the week and I'm already thinking about all that I want to accomplish this weekend. Since I moved into a new apartment, I've got furnishing and decorating on the mind. Any Portland readers have a favorite spot for used stuff?

Dolman Top

{Shirt: Piperlime | Skirt: Banana | Shoes: Payless}

I really like the dolman sleeves on this top. It adds a playful structure to an otherwise sleek outfit. Do you ever wonder why they are called Dolman sleeves? Well, Wikipeida has the answer.

Also, welcome to my second edition of the Bree-Mix! This time around, I am showing you another way I wore BOTH my skirt AND shirt. You're welcome.

To me, a black pencil skirt is an absolute staple item. It's the easiest piece to put on for work, and you can basically pair it with any blouse- printed or plain. Then you can take that blouse, and pair it with jeans for a weekend look. I love it when getting dressed is easy!

The Bree-Mix...

{Shirt: Nordstrom | Pants: Paige | Shoes: Payless }

I recently posted about wanting to makes some changes here at Dream In Fashion. So, in an effort to make this blog reflect my style of having an affordable, re-wearable wardrobe, I've decided to add a "remix" feature. And to personalize it, I think I am going to call it The Bree-Mix (is that too cheesy??)

I've also decided that I won't be posting outfits EVERYday. Don't you worry, I'll still be getting dressed everyday- but truth be told, I am an outfit repeater. You heard me. When I put together a look I love, it's just too good to only wear once. So I wear it again, and again (sometimes the very next day...)

I won't bore you with full on repeats on the blog. But I WILL show you how I remix some of my favorite pieces.

Lets start things off with this purple-jem-of-a-top that I picked up at Nordstrom a few years back. I've been bree-mixing this shirt for several years, and it has already made 3 appearances on the blog.

Party Shirt

{Shirt: H&M (recent) | Blazer: Express | Jeans: Citizens of Humanity | Shoes: Payless | Belt: Banana Republic | Necklace: DIY via dismount creative | Backyard: parents house}

This shirt has mullet like qualities. Business in the front and party in the back. Or at least it's long in the back, can that count as a party? I think so! Plus, the colors are fun and I think there might be a hint of a zebra stripe in this shirt so that automatically screams party.

Notice how these pictures are so very GREEN! Ladies and gentlemen, we are not in DC anymore. I arrived at my parent's house outside of Portland, Oregon late last night for a quick weekend extravaganza! My youngest brother is graduating from college so it's time to celebrate with family. Looking forward to a relaxing and loving weekend. Hope you all are doing the same. Thanks for reading!
