lounge skirt

{jacket: h&m (similar) | shirt: thrifted (similar) | skirt: loft | bag: foley and corinna | shoes: target | scarf: h&m}

I picked up this skirt on sale (and 40% off) in the "lounge" section at the Loft. There is something great about wearing clothes from the lounge section. I think just by name alone they become more comfortable. This skirt is as soft as can be and the textured gray color couldn't be more versatile.

If you need me, I'll be busy lounging.**

** April fools. I'll actually be at work....whomp. whomp.

Pencil Skirts

{blouse: Jcrew factory | skirt: banana (similar) | scarf: h&m | shoes: payless}

In case you haven't noticed, let me tell you, that I'm a big fan of pencil skirts. In these winter months, tights are essential (at least in my climate) when wearing any type of skirt. And since I get dressed most days, and some of those days involve skirts, black tights have started to feel a little predictable.

I haven't gotten too adventurous with my tight selection, but I am thinking about branching out. So I started with gray. A safe baby step away from black. When I wear colored tights, I like to think of the 2/3 rule. I try to match 2 out of 3- skirt, tights, shoes. Gray skirt, Gray tights, black shoes. 2 out of 3. Look out readers, I just snuck in a little math lesson.

Bree-Mix: Favorite Pants

{sweater: thrifted | pants: banana (similar) | boots: Jcrew (similar) | scarf: Zara (not similar, but cute!}

On a day when I have few words to share, I figured a bree-mix was in order. These pants are just too fabulous not to wear three times, or every day...but who's counting?

See previous outfits here and here.

Grey.

{Shirt: thrifted | Skirt: Target (similar) | Shoes: Seychelles | Necklace: Anthropologie}

A few tidbits for your Monday morning:

There was an obvious post title for this outfit, but I decided to skip it.

About 2 weeks ago, my phone was stolen. Right-out of-my-hand. So for 2 weeks, I was phone-less. In a way, it was liberating. I was forced to spend more time looking at my surrounding, instead of looking at my phone. I had to be creative and firm when making plans instead of vague and non-committal. I had to be alone with my thoughts, instead of always reading the thoughts of others. Liberating? yes. Frustrating? yes.  I'm happy to have a phone again and to be back in touch with people who are important to me. But it was a good reminder that there is an important part of the world right in front of us, that we might miss by being absorbed in our phones.

It's Monday morning, but all I want to think about is the weekend. It was a good weekend. Full of sunshine, friends, laughter, mimosas, a trip to the zoo, and a new phone.

Put A Bird On It

{Shirt: Urban Outfitters | Skirt: Target (similar) | Bracelet: NOLA Souvenir | Bird Scarf: Nordstrom (similar) | Shoes: Seychelles (similar) | Watch: Michael Kors}

When people find out that I call Portland, Oregon my hometown, nine times out of ten they ask me if I watch Portlandia. I always had to say no, because I didn't, but as this kept happening, I started to feel like I was missing something. So thanks to Netflix, I started watching Portlandia.

My thoughts are mixed. It's funny, weird, truthful, exaggerated, ridiculous, hilarious, and nostalgic all at the same time. But it has some GREAT one-liners. So for that reason alone, I think I'll continue to watch. Because who doesn't like a good one-liner?

Silver and Neon

{Shirt: American Apparel | Skirt: J.Crew | Shoes: Target | Necklaces: J.Crew, eastern market, F21 | Bracelets: F21, Loft}

I'll let you in on a little secret; I basically missed the 80's. Or at least the pop culture aspect of the 80's-  the fashion, TV shows, music, and big hair. My 80's were spent outdoors, growing up in a cabin in the woods. And while I did wear stir-up pants, I had no idea that it might be fashionable to do so.  Now days, when people throw 80's parties and talk about the Goonies, Jem, Paula Abdul, Double Dare, and wearing acid wash denim, I get to experience it all for the first time. So this neon skirt might look like an 80's flashback, but it's all a new adventure for me!

Since this skirt is bold enough to be the centerpiece of my outfit, I paired it with neutral hints of silver- shoes, bracelets, necklaces, and a grey shirt to balance everything out.

Pink Wish

{Cardigan: banana republic | Tank: banana republic | Skirt: banana republic (similar) | Shoes: Target | Belt: H&M | Bracelets: LOFT}

I know what you are thinking. Could that girl be wearing any more banana republic? Well actually, I could. My shoes, belt, and bracelets could be from banana also. But I like to mix things up.

In the spirit of making excuses, I got this skirt 2 years ago for $14. Can you believe it? Well it's true. And it has pockets. The pockets alone should be worth $14. (but that would be a funny looking skirt).    As for the rest of my outfit, a few weeks back banana sent out one of those "LOOK HOW MUCH MONEY YOU CAN SAVE" emails: 50 percent off of 5 items. You heard me. 50 percent.  How could I pass that up?

So I walked on over to my local banana and picked up this cardigan and tank. I mean, they were practically giving it away (right?). So here I am, dressed neck to knee in banana, making wishes on dandelions.

Bow Ties

{Blazer: Loft (similar) | Blouse: Nordstrom | Pants: Banana Republic (similar) | Shoes: Payless }

Finding places to take outfit photos can be a challenge. Since I use a tripod and timer, it's just me, standing in front of the tripod, striking different poses, making different faces, and all together acting the fool. People walking by tend to give me strange looks. A few even stop to stare which makes me feel uncomfortable and makes getting the right shot even harder! So I've been choosing to hang out in back alleys. Less people, less stares. Unfortunately, back alleys in DC are not well cared for- hence the hanging wires and overgrown grass spilling out of the wall crack. Can I get someone to tidy-up these alleys for me?

In other news, this grey, knit blazer is like a dream come true. Sweatpant-like material that I can wear to work. Genius.
