Bree-Mix: Army Jacket

{jacket: h&m (similar) | dress: thrifted (similar) | booties: shoe mint | clutch: target | scarf: nordstrom | hat: urban (similar)}

So it turns out that when you photograph a thin striped dress, the stripes look rather dizzying in the photos. Is anyone else noticing that? I look much less blurry in real life, I think? And despite the psychedelic feeling, I still love these stripes.

I also love this army jacket. It is hands down my favorite purchase of the season. It's the perfect lightweight option and even though it's technically a jacket, I find myself wearing it more like a shirt.  Which means that when I am somewhere I'd normally take my jacket off, I leave this green wonder on because it just makes me feel so good! And that brings me to the Bree-mix portion of the post! Check out three different ways I've worn this jacket below. And if you're really into it, check out the fourth way too.

Previous outfit details can be found here and here.

casual polka dots

{shirt: zara | jeans: 7 for all mankind | hat: urban (similar) | bag: target | belt: banana}

It’s only 9am but I’m already thinking about lunch. Working in downtown Portland provides me with access to some amazing food carts. And I’ve got a serious crush on my favorite place. So serious, that I’ve been eating the same lunch almost every day for months. It’s called the Whole Bowl and it’s a delicious mix of rice, beans, sauce, tomatoes, cheese, olives, avocado, sour cream, and cilantro. If you live nearby, go here right away. If you don’t, Google ways to make your own. It’s simple, delicious, and healthy. Consider this my public service announcement of the day.

Now, onto my outfit. I call this look casual polka dots. It's prefect to wear to lunch! Need I say more?

Summer Denim Inspiration

{Shirt: Thrifted | Shorts: Zara | Shoes: Payless | Hat: Urban Outfitters}

Earlier this week I was at screen on the green- where DCites come together on the national mall to picnic and lounge on blankets while watching an old movie- and was partaking in some people watching before the show started. A girl nearby had on the perfect summer outfit and I couldn't stop admiring her- cut-off jean shorts, a colorful lightweight flannel, and a summer hat. Naturally, I felt I had to recreate the look.

The shopper in my wanted to go out and by a new, more colorful shirt- but I resisted- and decided this thrifted find from a few years back would do the trick. This shirt is a bit on the long side, so I simply tied the front ends together to shorten it- and ta-da, my inspired, summer denim outfit was complete.  Where do you look for outfit inspiration?

Summer Shorts

{Shirt: Loft | Shorts: Target | Hat: Urban Outfitters | Shoes: Ciao Bella | Necklace: remade from old jewlery}

I am traveling for work, yet again this week. My hotel is really isolated, which means I can't walk everywhere like I usually do in DC. So I've spent a lot of time siting by the pool, sipping on gin and tonics, and relaxing. Oh, and working too.

I snapped these photos before I left home. I've decided that these shorts are the perfect summer shorts. Light, breezy, and with a great summer print. I added a casual braid because my hair was wet and I was too lazy/hot to dry it. An easy, no fuss hair style is essential when you take several showers a day due to the heat. What are your favorite go-to summer hair styles?

Pool Time

{Dress: Target (similar) | Hat: Target (similar) | Sunnies: Marc by Marc Jacobs via TJ Max (similar) | Shoes: Modcloth}

This last picture represents my "it's too hot to do anything face." Even too hot to go to the pool. And if you know me at all, you know that I LOVE POOLS. But it was just that hot. But of course, I went to the pool anyways, so I figured I might as well go in style.

So that pretty much sums up my weekend. Sundress. Pool. Cold Shower. Sundress. Pool. Cold Shower. Repeat.

White Wash

{Shirt: Loft | Pants: Gap | Hat: Urban (on sale!) | Necklace: Target | Shoes: Payless | Watch: Michael Kors}

Happy Tuesday. This is one of those weeks where I am counting down the days till Thursday. You heard me- Thursday. I've got a 4 day weekend in my future. And a visit from one of my besties to top it all off!

If you don't have a summer hat yet, I recommend this one. I love this hat (and it's on sale). I've been wearing it every chance I get. Last night I wore it with sweatpants to have dinner in my kitchen. Classy, I know.

playground safari

{Tank: Loft | Skirt: Anthropologie (similar) | Shoes: Seychelles (similar) | Hat: Urban Outfitters | Purse: Lucky}

I've never been on a safari, but if I ever go, I am pretty sure I'll wear a hat like this. I picked this one up at Urban for a recent trip to New Orleans, and it is already one of my summer favorites (which is pretty impressive since it's not even summer yet).

The material is flexible and holds its shape so that I can throw it in a suitcase or purse without worrying about crushing the structure. After recently buying a stiff sun hat that quickly creased and lost its wearability, I learned that a good hat should be made of soft, pliable material. And this one fits the bill!

Striped Attitude

{shirt: Jcrew (similar) | Pants: Urban Outfitters | Shoes: Payless | Scarf: Halogen  | Hat: H&M}

I went on a coffee run yesterday with a coworker. When at Starbucks, we always pay with our Starbucks card iPhone apps.  When we got there, my coworker realized he forgot his phone. My alarmed remark was "how will you pay for your coffee?" He looked at me strangely and reminded me that he had a wallet. Come to find out, Starbucks still takes cash and cards. Phew.

This outfit has nothing to do with my coffee run. In fact, I wasn't even wearing this while at Starbucks. Ha. But I do love coffee, and stripes, so technically, it all relates.

Hat Girl

{Tee: Loft | Jeans: Citizens | Shoes: Payless | Hat: H&M | Scarf: Zara | Necklace: DIY (via Dismount Creative)}

Usually, my favorite outfits are the simple ones. Jeans, t-shirt, and a few accessories to add some flare. I wore this to an evening BBQ and it turned out to be a perfect DC evening. It wasn't perfect because of my outfit (although looking good can't hurt). It was perfect because the weather was 70 degrees, I was on a roof top, and I was eating a smart dog.  What is a smart dog you might ask? Well, it's a meat-free, hot dog shaped, soy substance that vegetarians sometimes eat at BBQs. Add some ketchup, mustard, and sauerkraut and people might even mistake you for a meat-eater. Now that's what I call smart.
